Indigenous Project OfficerSteve “Bear” Hall hails from Walgett and has been involved with Rugby League since he was eight years old. Steve has been a Development Officer for the NSWRL for 19 years after a 21-year playing career with Western Division in country NSW saw him eventually coach the region to the Country Championships in 1986.
Steve’s role at the NSWRL Western Sydney Academy is to increase the participation numbers of Indigenous players, coaches, officials and administrators in Rugby League, particularly in western Sydney and country NSW regions. Steve conducts coaching courses for Indigenous coaches, clinics for junior players to encourage them to join junior league clubs, and is a mentor for a number of young players throughout the NSWRL junior representative competitions. Steve plays a major role in the organisation of the annual interstate Indigenous series between NSW and Queensland, and also assists ARL Indigenous Program Manager Ricky Walford.
Steve lives in Campbelltown with his wife of 30 years, Margaret, and his two children Michelle and Steven Jnr. Steve considers Rugby League his life and likes to watch it whenever possible, and is proud to be a life member of Group 11.
